Wilsons Promontory Epic Run - Lighthouse and South Point
Sunday 12th June 2005

This was the most spectacular run of my life - amazing place, beautiful views and a great run!!
Read my story here or check out the photos below.

Wilsons Prom map

Zoomed in on the southern part, it shows Tidal River and I put circles around the car park, lighthouse and South Point.

Mt Oberon and Norman Island (in distance)

Taken just near Halfway Hut looking back over the flatlands towards Mt Oberon and Norman Island (in distance)

Norman Island

From just near Halfway Hut looking over Oberon Bay to Norman Island

The track I just ran up!!

Morning sunlight shining over Mt Wilson, looking back down the hill I just ran up!!

Burnt out track

All the whole track looks like this - burnt out trees and vegetation; very sparse

More burnt area on top of plateau

The trees up here were smaller and scrubby-like, which makes this view very barren

Lighthouse trakc turnoff

The road finishes about 200m further on, and from this point it's 3.1km along the coastline to the lighthouse

Bass Strait Island

Don't know it's name, but just one of the islands off the south coast of Wilsons Prom

More Islands

The lighthouse is just off the left edge of this photo

The lighthouse

It is spectacular on a knoll jutting out into the ocean. A stunning sight from here.

Closer to the lighthouse

Looking down and along the rocky knoll

Lighthouse information

It's been there for a long time!!

The lighthouse!!

Accommodation cabins on the right and the view from the end of this lane is spectacular. That's me, also!!

View towards Waterloo Bay

Looking from lighthouse area along the east coast of Wilsons Prom. And me!!

Looking west, towards South Point

The track to the lighthouse winds along the coastline, high above the ocean.

From Lighthouse back towards Wilsons Prom

Also looking towards Waterloo Bay over the top of the helicopter landing area

Track to South Point...closed!!!

Do you think is gunna stop me?? Nup!! Step around the bunting and off into the burnt out oblivion of Wilsons Prom...

Track to South Point - burnt out

This part of the track is easy to see(!!) - other parts were far more covered in burnt banches, trees and debris

South Point

Looking towards Wattle Island with the coast on the right

The bottom of Mainland Australia

Hard to get to but the significance of this sign makes it all worthwhile

Driftwood at South Point

My dad would love this wood - heaps of large planks washed up on the rocks

South Point panorama

Actual South Point in front centre, with a couple of islands just off the coast

Tired and satisfied!!

Back at the car park after an epic and spectacular run, ready to put my feet up...

Altitude map

An altitude map of the run - lots of damn big hills!!!

Tidal River beach

Looking offshore towards Glennie Group of islands in late afternoon

Mt Oberon from Tidal River beach

Playing a bit of frisbee with the burnt and charred Mt Oberon in the background

Looking southwards beyond Oberon Bay
